Woke up feeling ill with diarrhoea, ate minimal for breakfast and took medication and stocked up on zip locks and TP for emergency use. Meanwhile the team last another member when Dale decided not to go any further having experienced a stomach upset and breathing difficulties over the last couple of days. With the previous night temperatures dropping to -20C it was a cold start to the day. A 1.5 hour slog up to the fixed lines then ‘jumaring’ up the lines to gain the W Buttress proper. At this point the sun had come out and it was very hot, despite wearing only a base layer. We continued without a break along the ridge offering great climbing and exposure. Stopping for a much needed break it became apparent that Drew was experiencing initial symptoms of HACE, whilst Sean lower down was having breathing issues. Our group stayed on the ridge greeting other Mtn Trip groups who were descending from high camp whilst Drew went down to pick up Sean and descend to 14 camp. We cache’d our gear and an hour later descended to 14 camp for our afternoon siesta. Group is now down to 2 guides and 6 clients.
